Раньше я не любила осень, за грязь и холод, мокрятину и унылые пейзажи.... Теперь я даже дождь люблю! Отвыкла от поняття «золотая осень», у нас она очень разноцветная! Вдохновляет!

The rain never came in time.

The blaze approached the city limits.

The winds had already arrived. Within minutes, the flames reached neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city; within an hour, wind speeds had doubled, driving flames through communities and toppling utility poles. The resulting blaze killed 14 people, injured nearly 200 others and damaged or destroyed nearly 2,500 homes and businesses.

From an idea of this quilter, to the generosity of women from all over the world, “The Burning Leaves of Gatlinburg” quilt were born...

After seeing the inferno that engulfed our beloved neighborhood in Gatlinburg, TN, my heart could not rest until I set my fingers busy to try and ease the pain of others that had suffered an even greater loss than my husband and me.  This was just our vacation home and we knew from previous experience, in 2005, what it was like to lose everything to fire.

The Gatlinburg fires started during a drought that made the fall leaves brilliant with color, colors of fire itself!  With this in mind my quilter's hands began to designed and cut a leaf pattern that I set out to tell other quilters about.  I would send the pattern to all who would craft a leaf from it, return it, and then I would sew the beauty of the falling leaves and the compassion of others, into the warmth of a quilt for those who had lost so much.

The response was uplifting, the results were beautiful, most of all, lives were touched... and none not greater than mine.

I received 213 leaves in total and they are still coming. Four quilts are already made, one is donated, three more will be given away soon, 2 more of these charity quilts are under the needle…  Hopefully they will turn out my neighbors’ memories from burning to warming up their souls.

 This quilt will stay in my family as a memory of the beautiful house we lost in that fire.

 This was the most intricate and challenging part of pieing and assembling this quilt.

 If you do free motion quilting, you might like these tiny but very bright LED finger lights!

White color light (recommended for sewing) will brighten the area around the sewing needle. Extremely helpful for free motion quilting, especially when working on dark fabrics.

Elastic band will hold it tight on the top of your finger, so you can still feel the fabric with your finger tips.
Also helps in cleaning your sewing machine or bobbin area. 

Long armers will appreciate this little helper, when changing the bobbin.

Other colors will make any gathering beautiful!

 Every log cabin block has a little cabin in the center. Needless to say they will represent all those, which burned to the ground.

Still debating: round or square...

I want to thank one more time every person, who made and mailed me blocks with maple leaves for my project "Burning leaves of Gatlinburg", for my neighbors, who lost their homes in wild fire on November 28th, 2016: Carmela Anjos, Dawne Johnson Brooks, Glenys Shallard, Pam Johnson, Rebecca Tucker, Patty Holloway, Sharon Bentle, Diane E. Swett, Leslie Mullins, Virginia Smith, Pamela Barger Edl, Jean Foglein, Mary Lou Dagnall, 'Harolyn Kay Fuller, Jamey Herd, Linda Sclare Lyons, Lisa Centurelli, Judy Ingram, Rae Nichols, Linda Byers, Lynn Buske, Lee White, Maureen Trelfer. 

During the class I was taking at the "Quiltfest" show in Pigeon Forge, 

I met the lady, who belongs to the "Piecemakers" guild, who organize "Quiltfest" show every year, and we know each other for several years. Her name is Bonnie Goolsby. She told me, that she also lost her permanent home in Gatlinburg. All her sewing room, fabrics and supplies are gone too. I can feel her pain. So I immediately decided to give one of this quilts to her. 

She was surprised and glad to have it. I believe she feels the warms of our hearts and hands in this special quilt. Look at it and you might find your block(s) in it! 

Two other quilts are also finished. Just need to make some researches to find out where my other neighbors live now, then schedule a meeting to give them those quilts.

All three quilted!

Yes! I finished quilting all three of "Burning leaves of Gatlinburg" quilts!!!

The next step is binding!

So far I completed piecing three quilts with leaf blocks. One is already quilted, the second set is under the needle right now. Hope to finish soon!

 Jack is growing fast! He is 3.5 month now!
